White Shirts Gone Wild: How a Wardrobe Basic Got Incredibly Exciting

1 min read

Classic white Button-ups just got exciting. Yes indeed. Sportswear staples known for crisp collars and clean cuts have been revamped in ways that dazzle the mind and energize the wardrobe. In the Resort 2023 collection from New York brand The Row, witness surreal white shirts, including the version shown at left, which would be standard if not for the detachable, fluffy white shawl. “That was my Catholic school uniform!” said Megan Bugge, 46, an Austin, Texas, paralegal, of the standard form of the shirt. “But now, it’s trippy.”

White collar shirts have been in abundance this season—and they’re anything but uniform. Brunello Cucinelli The Wall Street Crop Top (pictured) cuts the businesswear mainstay mid-torso to create an unorthodox wolfet, and Danish label Tove sells it with a regal peplum. “I love utility [button-up shirts] in my wardrobe,” said New York stylist Pamela Sheppard, 39, who owns “countless” iterations, including Ralph Lauren and J. Includes the crew’s oversized and dip-dyed riffs.
