At least 23 people have been killed by a tornado in the US state of Mississippi. The tornado hit Friday night local time. Multiple people were injured and four people were missing, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. Besides, it is feared that many people are trapped under the rubble of the destroyed building.
It is reported that several rural towns were devastated by the tornado. There were downed trees and power lines. Hundreds of thousands of power outages were reported. In addition, heavy rainfall and golf ball-sized hail were also reported in Mississippi.
Residents of Rolling Fork, Mississippi’s Sharkey County, said a tornado blew out the back windows of their homes.
Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves said on Twitter that search and rescue teams were providing medical assistance to the victims.
Meanwhile, some other southern states of the country are said to be ready for strong storms.
