The name of the Iranian diplomat released from Belgium is Asadollah Asadiq. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Friday that he is returning to his country. On the other hand, the Prime Minister of Belgium, Alexander de Cro, said that the charity worker Olivier Vandekastel is on the way to Brussels.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman informed that the two released persons will be taken from Tehran and Brussels to Muscat, the capital of Oman. From there they will return to their respective countries.

Charity worker Olivier Vandekastel was arrested by Iran on espionage charges. In January this year, a court of the country sentenced him to 40 years in prison and 74 lashes. He was also fined 1 million dollars.

Earlier in 2021, Asadollah Asadi was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Belgium. He was accused of plotting to bomb an Iranian opposition group in exile in France. However, his plan did not succeed.
