Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, chairman of Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, announced the sighting of the Ramadan moon at a press conference in Peshawar on Wednesday evening. Earlier, this committee in charge of moon sighting in Pakistan held a meeting at 5 pm.

Due to the cloudy weather on this day, the moon could not be seen in Peshawar. However, sightings have been confirmed in other parts of the country.

Maulana Azad said in the press conference that they have confirmed sighting of the moon in areas like Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Swabi, Qila Saifullah and Mardan.

Every year, Ramadan usually starts and ends in Pakistan on the same day as the rest of the South Asian countries. However, the moon was not seen on Wednesday in Bangladesh-India this year. As a result, the month of Ramadan is expected to start in these countries from Friday.

However, the month of Ramadan has started from Thursday in almost all countries of the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia. Last Tuesday, the Saudi authorities said that Wednesday will be the last day of the month of Shaban in the country and the month of Ramadan will start from Thursday, as the moon of Ramadan was not seen that day.

The United Arab Emirates Moon Sighting Committee also said that since the moon was not sighted on Tuesday, the month of Ramadan will start from Thursday in the country.

Months in the Islamic calendar are usually 29 or 30 days long. The beginning and end of the month depends on the sighting of the moon. For this reason, the start day of Ramadan is not predetermined every year like other months.
