Election of mayor, deputy mayor and 6 standing committee members could not be held at Delhi Municipal Company on Tuesday but while all the board members took oath, the diversity of Indian languages ​​was visible in the swearing-in ceremony. MCD board members took the oath in several languages ​​including Hindi, English, Urdu, Punjabi, Maithili and Sanskrit. Most of these corporators took the oath in Hindi, while some took the oath in English, others in Punjabi, Urdu, Sanskrit and even Maithili.

Aam Aadmi Shaili Oberoi and BJP’s Rekha Gupta mayoral candidates take the oath in Hindi. Shelly Oberoi was greeted by her party corporates who thumped their tables and chanted ‘Jai Hind, Jai Bharat’ slogans after taking the oath.

When Rekha Gupta stood up to take the oath as a corporator, the corporate BJP greeted him with the slogan ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

Oaths are taken in Urdu, Punjabi and Maithili

AAP deputy mayoral candidate Ale Mohammad Iqbal takes the oath in Urdu amid the slogan ‘Hindustan Zindabad’.

Councilman Ankush Narang took the oath in Punjabi and then raised the slogan ‘Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh’.

Significantly, an alderman even took the oath in Maithili, much to everyone’s shock.

The BJP deputy mayoral candidate takes the oath in Sanskrit

BJP’s Kamal Bagdi, who came to the DPR wearing a colorful turban, took an oath in Sanskrit and then shouted the slogan ‘Jai Siya Ram’, to which a member sitting in the DPR responded with ‘Har Har Mahadev’.
