Foreign Minister calls on the United Nations to find the root cause of the Rohingya crisis

The Secretary General of the United Nations Special Envoy for Myanmar, Nolin Hejar, called upon the root cause of the Rohingya crisis to be found by the Foreign Minister. AK Abdul Momen.

He made this call at a bilateral meeting at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations on Tuesday local time.

Referring to the various resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly and the Security Council regarding the Rohingya, the Foreign Minister said that multifaceted diplomatic efforts should be continued to speed up the process of repatriation of the Rohingya to their motherland. At the same time, ASEAN leaders should be more involved in this process. If given the opportunity, the Rohingyas can make a significant contribution to the socio-economic development of Myanmar.

The Foreign Minister said that the Bangladesh government has launched various humanitarian programs for them, including the introduction of Myanmar curriculum-based education programs in temporary camps in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasanchar.

He said the Special Envoy should collect sufficient funds from the international community to ensure food, education, shelter and health care for the Rohingya.

In this regard, this Wednesday afternoon, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. AK Abdul Momen is scheduled to attend a dinner at the UN headquarters with King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and President Emomali Rahman of Tajikistan.
