Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said the decision to lay off workers was made due to economic uncertainty.
This decision is taken after departments have decided on their priorities and outlined investments for the following year in the annual planning process.
Earlier, technology giant Amazon laid off 18,000 workers to reduce costs. The company began a layoff phase last November. However, the exact number of workers to be laid off was not announced at the time.
Jassi then said, ‘We are working on supporting the affected workers. We are assisting them with retrenchment compensation, interim health insurance benefits and arranging employment elsewhere.’
Meanwhile, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, announced another 10,000 layoffs last week. At the same time, it has been informed that the 5000 vacant posts in the company will not be appointed.
