A boat carrying migrants has sunk off the coast of Tunisia. At least 34 people including children are missing. Authorities believe the boat carrying migrants from sub-Saharan Africa was bound for Italy. BBC news.

In the last two days, five boats carrying migrants have sunk off the coast of Tunisia. Seven people lost their lives. At least 67 people are still missing.

According to the Tunisian Coast Guard, 56 boats crossing to Italy have been intercepted in the last two days. Hossem Jababli of the Tunisian National Guard said that more than three thousand immigrants were detained from these boats.

In recent times, Tunisia has become one of the centers of immigration to Europe.

More than 20,000 deaths and disappearances have occurred in the central Mediterranean region since 2014, according to the UN registry. Thus it has become the world’s most dangerous migrant crossing.

A boat carrying migrants from the Turkish port of Izmir capsized off the Italian coastal town of Crotone on February 26, killing many.

Earlier on February 14, another boat carrying migrants sank off the coast of Qasr Al Akhiya, Libya, leaving 18 dead and 55 missing.
