13 killed in strong earthquake in Ecuador

A powerful earthquake struck the Latin American countries of Ecuador and Peru. At least 14 people died in this earthquake of magnitude 6.7. Among the dead were 13 from Ecuador and one from Peru. 126 people were injured in this incident.

The earthquake hit the town of Balao in the Guayas province of Ecuador’s coastal region on Saturday (March 18) at noon local time.

According to Al Jazeera, the earthquake originated at a depth of 66.4 km below the surface. Earthquake in Ecuador caused extensive damage. Schools and health centers were damaged.

Ecuador’s President Guillermo Lasso said all ministries have been mobilized and all preparations are in place to recover from the earthquake’s damage.

An agency in the country said two aftershocks were felt an hour after the earthquake. However, the country’s authorities did not issue any tsunami warning due to the earthquake.

It should be noted that at least 52,000 people died in the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Syria and Turkey in the early hours of February 6.
